What is LIPOSUCTION SURGERY
Liposuction is one of the most popular and common body contouring procedures and is additionally referred to as ‘lipoplasty’, ‘lipectomy’, ‘liposculpture suction’, or simply ‘lipo’. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure to get rid of unwanted fat and shape your body with desired contours. It uses a suction technique to get rid of the difficult deposits of fat present between muscle and skin in the problematic areas. After liposuction, the skin moulds itself to the new contours of the treated areas. This procedure for good removes fatty tissues and therefore the results are everlasting as long as your weight remains stable.
Types of Techniques – The following are a few different types of techniques for liposuction. Each technique shares the common use of a thin tube referred to as cannula which is connected to a vacuum to suction the fat from the body.
- Tumescent liposuction – This technique most of the time is performed without general anaesthesia and has a short treatment time. It involves an infusion of saline, adrenaline and local anaesthesia via a small incision in the identified area. After that, the fat cells are suctioned out. The solution makes it easier to suction the fat with less blood loss and pain.
- Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) – In this technique, ultrasound waves are used to target the fat cells and soften them into liquid before the fat is removed. It uses sound energy waves to rupture the walls of the fat cells and then the liquefied fat is suctioned out. It allows the accurate removal of fat deposits and maintains skin elasticity.
- Laser-assisted liposuction (LAL) – This technique uses high-intensity laser light to break down fat for removal. During LAL, the surgeon inserts a laser fibre through a small incision in the skin and emulsifies fat deposits. The heat delivered by the laser also stimulates the creation of new collagen and helps to make the skin smoother and tightened.
- Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) – This type of liposuction uses a cannula that moves in a rapid back-and-forth motion. This vibration permits the surgeon to pull out tough fat more easily and faster. PAL may sometimes cause less pain and swelling and can allow the surgeon to remove fat with exactness. The surgeon may select this technique if large volumes of fat need to be removed or if you’ve had a previous liposuction procedure
Post Operative
Post-Surgery one can expect pain, bruising and swelling. Antibiotics are prescribed to counter any risk related to infection. As per the situation, medications might be prescribed to handle pain. There might be numbness in the operated area which usually gets better in a few weeks. Tight compression garments are prescribed to reduce swelling and help the muscles and skin of the operated area to settle down into position. These garments are to be worn for a few weeks. Another possibility is that one or more incisions with temporary drain are left open to help drainage of residue fluid. Depending on the amount of fat suction, one may get slowly back to work or need to wait a few days to a few weeks before getting back to daily schedule or activities.
