HAIR TRANSPLANT
A hair transplant occurs when a cosmetic or dermatological surgeon transplants hair to a bald part of the head. Hair is typically moved from the rear or side of the head to the front or top of the head by the surgeon. Hair transplants are generally performed under local anaesthetic. Most part of the baldness is caused in pattern. Genetics has a role in this. The remaining cases are caused by a number of things, including:
- Diet
- Stress
- Medicines
- Hormonal imbalance
FUT and FUE are the two main techniques used to obtain follicles for transplantation.
In the case of follicular unit transplantation (FUT): A blade will be used by the surgeon to cut a strip of scalp skin from the back of the head. Typically, the incision is several inches long. This is then stitched and sealed. The surgeon then divides the removed scalp into small sections with a magnifying lens and a sharp surgical knife. These portions, when implanted, will help in the growth of natural-looking hair.
In the case of follicular unit extraction (FUE): Hair follicles are usually removed from the back of the head using hundreds or even thousands of tiny punch incisions in follicular unit extraction (FUE). The surgeon uses a blade or a needle to make tiny holes in the area of your scalp that is receiving treatment. Following that, the graft, gauze, or bandages will be applied to your scalp for a few days. A hair transplant procedure can last 4 hours and more. About 10 days after surgery, your sutures will be
removed. It may take approximately 3 – 4 sessions to reach the desired full head of hair. Sessions are spaced several months apart to allow each transplant to heal completely.
